Ireland fell for Caliber’s 360-degree walk-around Social Grill, a grill designed exclusively as an installation for David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group, notable for its fully retractable ‘disappearing’ lid—a feature that Ireland loves, though its bright red color is what grabbed her attention first (it also can be any custom color). “The one thing I kept of my house was its red garage door, so I saw this and thought, ‘Oh, it’s crying out to be in my backyard,’” the designer says.
Or as Russ Diamond, Snyder Diamond’s owner puts it, “it’s her (Kathryn’s) Alfa Romeo.”
With so many of us pressing pause on any vacation plans that involve air travel this summer, the whole concept of a “staycation” has taken on new meaning—with our own backyards suddenly looking like the best bet for a safe retreat. Of course, being stuck at home isn’t so bad when your space actually looks and feels like a getaway. So when Snyder Diamond had the opportunity to check out the lush oasis of Kathryn M. Ireland (see picture above) they jumped at the chance with this summer grilling kick-off video.

Chef Amanda Palomino is a seasoned chef. She joined PIRCH San Diego in their test kitchen over a year ago, and prior to that she battled it out in two seasons on Hell’s Kitchen with Chef Ramsay. Caliber was excited to have Amanda take the Caliber Indoor Pro Range on a test drive in anticipation of PIRCH adding this to their showroom. Chef Amanda seared salmon on the rangetop and also cooked it in the range at 425°F in the convection oven, and raved about the even heat of Caliber. She also baked two trays of chocolate chip cookies at the same time and couldn’t believe the evenness of the baking in the gas range, and said it’s better than the electric ovens she’s baked in that boast being the best.
Amanda also tested the quick boil of the 23,000 BTU burners and the 500°F simmer down capabilities and was very impressed. She additionally made a stir fry, and found no hot spots across the griddle. Chef Amanda is excited to have Caliber’s indoor range join their showroom floor at PIRCH.
What better grill to involve in another social gathering hosted by PIRCH, but the Rockwell by Caliber Social Grill. Guests were in awe and said, “I get you are grilling, but very fun that we can also socialize!”

Chef Chris of Luxury Reps and Chef Amanda of PIRCH (San Diego, CA) made an amazing dish of grilled pork belly, polenta and shrimp while entertaining with new homeowners from a Ranch Santa Fe neighborhood. This was a great way to meet new neighbors while also getting ideas on what to include in their outdoor landscaping.
Pratt Guys is a design + build team creating all-inclusive backyard projects. For over a decade, the team of craftsmen at Pratt Guys have been building design-driven dream backyards, with their signature pergolas and cabanas, unique swimming pools, custom outdoor kitchens, and their award-winning commitment to customer satisfaction. They also have a showroom in Jacksonville, Florida and are an official Caliber dealer. The pictured Beachside Cabana Project in Atlantic Beach, Florida, is a perfect example of their quality work and features the Rockwell by Caliber Social Grill as the focal point in this open kitchen design.
On one side of the island, the chef can grill up lunch for guests who are comfortably seated on the other side of the bar in these handmade swing-away stools. The low grill lid allows guests to see over it for conversation. The Social Grill socialized this past week at a PIRCH event in San Diego, California. PIRCH (San Diego, CA) is a Caliber featured dealer this month for the unique culinary events they host to promote Caliber products.
PIRCH invited six couples who recently bought a new home in this Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood (through Butler Gore Realty Group) to experience Caliber as a possibility for their landscaping while also meeting their new neighbors.
The owner of the Local Brew Pub Mason (Mason Ale Works) was pairing up drinks and Chef Chris of Caliber had the group cooking kabobs of shrimp and beef, while socializing with each other over the Rockwell by Caliber Social Grill.
Chef Amanda of PIRCH smoked a lovely pulled pork on the Caliber Pro Kamado Grill with slaw and Mexican corn. It was a wonderful evening.
